Bow rehairing is very tedious work and I am sad to say that most student bows on the market were not made with the repairman in mind.  They usually have poorly cut mortices or just a hole that the hair was glued into (yikes !!).
With that said a very nice bow can be a pleasure to rehair.  A good quality bow should have nicely cut mortices in the frog and tip and also have wedges cut to fit (WITHOUT BEING GLUED IN).  Poorly made bows usually have to have the mortices re-cut.
Rehairs should be done using the finest horse hair available and a nice flat ribbon of hair should be achieved when finished.
